Artist Statement
My work explores the relationship between people, place, and the natural world through luminous watercolor, pastel, and white-line woodcut. Inspired by careful observation, I create paintings and prints that celebrate the beauty, diversity, and interconnectedness of wildlife, landscapes, and the places we call home. Whether depicting a native bird, a windswept beach, or the geography that shapes our landscape, my work invites viewers to look more closely and rediscover the wonder that exists in the world around them.
Careful observation is at the heart of my practice. I am drawn to the fleeting interactions of light, color, and season, as well to the local flora and fauna, seeking to preserve moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Watercolor, with its luminous transparency and unpredictability, reflects the very subjects I paint—delicate, ever-changing, and beautiful because of their impermanence. My background in fine art, graphic design, printmaking, and illustration informs both my technical approach and my compositions, allowing me to balance precision with atmosphere while revealing the subtle character of a place.
I believe that appreciation is the first step toward stewardship. By fostering curiosity, wonder, and emotional connection, I hope my work encourages viewers to see familiar landscapes and overlooked species with fresh eyes, inspiring a deeper understanding of the ecosystems that sustain us and a shared commitment to protecting them for future generations.
